Mommessin Grandes Mises Saint-Amour is a charming Beaujolais red that combines the supple, fragrant character of Gamay with the distinctive warmth and generosity associated with one of the region’s crus. Bright, approachable and effortlessly food-friendly, it offers immediate drinking pleasure while retaining enough structure and freshness to reward thoughtful appreciation. This is an attractive choice for those seeking an elegant, aromatic red with genuine regional personality.

Mommessin is a long-established Burgundy house with deep roots in the wines of the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Its reputation is built on expressing the character of individual vineyards and appellations through wines that balance traditional regional identity with a polished, accessible style. In Saint-Amour, the domaine’s approach highlights Gamay’s natural perfume, lively fruit and graceful texture, making the wine particularly appealing at the table.

The wine shows a vivid ruby colour, leading into aromas of ripe red berries, cherry and raspberry, with floral notes and a subtle suggestion of spice. On the palate, juicy red fruit is supported by refreshing acidity and fine, gently drying tannins. Medium-bodied and rounded rather than heavy, it remains balanced and energetic, with a smooth progression into a clean finish marked by berry fruit and delicate floral nuance. Its freshness makes it especially inviting when served slightly cool.

Serve Mommessin Grandes Mises Saint-Amour at 14-16°C (57-61°F). It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, charcuterie, pork tenderloin, grilled sausages and mushroom dishes, while its soft fruit also complements salmon or tuna served with herbs. Enjoy it for relaxed lunches, informal dinners or convivial gatherings where a versatile, characterful red is called for.
