The Tenuta Garetto Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso is a stunning expression of Piedmont’s most exciting native white grape. This wine showcases remarkable complexity and structure, offering a compelling, age-worthy alternative to more famous full-bodied white wines.
Produced by the esteemed Gianni Gagliardo family, a winery with deep roots in Piedmont primarily celebrated for its elegant Barolo, this wine is a newer project. Their 2017 acquisition of Tenuta Garetto in the Colli Tortonesi hills marks a dedicated venture into championing the resurgent Timorasso grape. This positions them as both guardians of tradition and forward-thinking pioneers of Piedmontese viticulture.
In the glass, the wine presents a brilliant straw-yellow color with golden highlights. The nose is captivating and complex, revealing notes of citrus peel, ripe pear, and acacia honey, all underpinned by a distinct flinty minerality. On the palate, it is full-bodied and textured with vibrant acidity, delivering a long and persistent finish with a characteristic hint of toasted almond.
To best appreciate the depth of the Tenuta Garetto Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso, serve it lightly chilled at around 10-12°C (50-54°F). Its robust character pairs beautifully with rich risottos, roasted poultry, aged cheeses, and substantial seafood dishes.
